If you have a large family or regularly like to take your friends and family out and about then you might be in the market for one of the UK’s 8 seater cars. There are so many seven seater cars currently available in the UK, however the 8 seat varieties are much rarer. This is simply due to the fact that there is less of a demand for vehicles with eight seats, than there are for those with seven seats. If you are happy looking at second-hand models then you have slightly more choice, as there are a few discontinued models that would fit into this category. Here is a list of the best car models available in the UK that you might want to consider. The links from each car will take you to an individual page with a much more detailed review of the vehicle.
The Hyundai i800 MPV People Carrier
The Hyundai i800 is an affordable eight seater MPV that is not short of interior seating space. There is plenty of room for all passengers, even when all 8 seats are fully occupied. It has been said that the i800 is more akin to a ‘people carrier’, and doesn’t allow any of the more convenient seat folding that is present in 7 seat models. For the humble size of engine it is quite a nippy vehicle, however the van-like ride and only adequate levels of safety equipment aren’t very impressive considering this should be a family vehicle.
The Mercedes Benz Viano MPV
The Viano is a van-like people carrier that is often used by private hire taxi companies (think airport transfers) or celebrity chauffeurs! It is on the expensive side of the 8 seater spectrum, however it does deliver plenty of interior seating space. It has the classic Mercedes luxurious feel about it, and you can rest assured that the German engineered engine and mechanicals are unlikely to let you down. It is very nice to drive and comes with a reasonable amount of equipment, however it does have a high price tag.
The Peugeot Expert Tepee MPV
This MPV from Peugeot actually has nine seats, and so it can more than comfortably fit into the 8 seater car category. It is a highly versatile vehicle that is a perfectly capable family car. It has vast amounts of space for both passengers, luggage and pets – and is both cheap to buy and cheap to run in terms of fuel economy and maintenance. As many other vehicles in this size category, the Peugeot Expert Tepee also displays van-like looks that gets its roots from other Peugeot van models. Sliding doors add to the practicality that this model offers.
The Volkswagen Transporter Shuttle MPV
In contrast to most people carriers out there, the VW Shuttle is an 8 seater MPV that more resembles a van than a car. This doesn’t mean that the Transporter suffers in style and aesthetics however, it has a refined and quality interior that most car owners would be happy with. It is a popular vehicle with outdoor types (eg: mountain bikers, surfer dudes etc..) due to its capability to transport loads of people and kit in the vast interior. It comes with seating for eight as standard, and has a high quality VW engine. Overall it’s a highly practical MPV but doesn’t have the same fuel efficiency of a more car-like eight-seater. The sliding doors make for easy access, and we would recommend this vehicle to those that regularly cart a huge amount of kit or people around!
The 9 Seat Citroen Dispatch Combi Large MPV
Similar to the VW Transporter, the Citroen Dispatch Combi is based on the Citroen van by the same name. The only difference that the ‘Combi’ has is that it has windows and nine seats – although it does have a smaller 6 seat version. If you have a large family and again need lots of space, then the Citroen Dispatch Combi might be your best choice. In terms of looks it isn’t going to be setting pulses racing, but when it comes to being a large, practical family car / van, the Combi is a strong contender. It is quite a bit more affordable than other more aesthetic people carriers.
